Third Grade Buddies!!

The children were VERY excited to meet their third grade buddies. Mrs. Surprise and I plan to meet once monthly to participate in fun activities together.  We invited Mrs. Surprise's class to come to our room first and worked on pumpkin glyphs together:

There were specific directions as to how the children should decorate their pumpkins based on gender, whether they like candy corn, what size pumpkins they like best, etc.

First graders had so much fun.  They can't wait until we get together again!  :)

Global Read Aloud

We are so excited to be a part of the Global Read Aloud 2015!
Global Read Aloud was created by  Pernille Ripp in 2010 with this simple goal in mind....

One book to connect the world.

Five years later over 200,000 connections have been made all over the world!

The following brief video features Pernille Ripp:

Children all over the world will be reading books by the author Amy Krouse Rosenthal for a six week time period beginning October 6th.
We began our author study with the book Chopsticks. This story is about an inseparable pair of best friends, who discover that sometimes it is necessary to go off on their own and try new things.
As a follow up activity the children thought about things they like to do alone and things they like to do with others.

The children thoroughly enjoyed Skyping with two other first grade classes - one in Indiana and the other class was in Chicago.

Common Core Standard - Speaking and Listening 1.1:
Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 1 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
